The breeding program
Built on legendary bloodlines.
Our award-winning program draws on some of the most famous foundation lines in the United States, Mexico and Spain — and on one guiding idea: functional horses with excellent temperament and movement.
Why Rancho del Lago
Results you can count.
Rancho del Lago stallions have sired over 400 foals across the U.S. and Canada in the past two decades. Our horses and the offspring of our sires have earned over 1,100 show championships, reserve championships and movement awards.
According to U.S. Jockey Club statistics, our overall conception rate is comparable to well-run Thoroughbred race farms in Kentucky. Three of our trainers have been voted Professional Horseman of the Year.

How breeding works
Simple, fair, and risk-free.
01
Get in touch
Tell us about your mare — breed, age, history — and which stallion you have in mind. We're happy to help you choose.
02
Book the season
Breeding expenses are paid at the time of service. Discounts for multiple mares, returning clients and owners of mares by RDL stallions.
03
Chilled or on-site
We ship chilled semen anywhere in the U.S., or breed on site at the ranch where that makes sense.
04
Pay when she's in foal
The stud fee is only due once your mare is confirmed in foal with a heartbeat. $2,500 purebred, $1,250 crosses.

A quick glossary
New to the Spanish horse? These are the terms you'll see on our listings and stallion pages.
- PRE
- Pura Raza Española — the Pure Spanish Horse. The official studbook name for the Andalusian.
- ANCCE
- Spain's national association of PRE breeders, which keeps the official studbook and runs breeding evaluations.
- Inscribed
- Registered in the PRE studbook as a foal. Mature horses can then be presented for breeding evaluation.
- Revised / Approved
- Passed ANCCE's in-person breeding evaluation of conformation and movement — cleared to produce registered PRE foals.
- Qualified
- Calificado — a higher ANCCE distinction for stallions with outstanding morphology, performance or offspring.
- Elite & Breed Improvement
- ANCCE's top ranks for proven stallions whose offspring measurably improve the breed. Each earns a “stamp”.
- Cría Caballar
- Spain's historic military stud service. Its approval marked stallions selected for breeding.
- IALHA
- International Andalusian & Lusitano Horse Association — the U.S. registry and host of the breed's National Championships.
- USEF / USDF
- U.S. Equestrian Federation and U.S. Dressage Federation — governing bodies for shows, points and year-end awards.
- Gold Medal Movement
- An award at IALHA shows for exceptional quality of the walk, trot and canter.
- Get of Sire
- A show class judging a stallion by a group of his offspring — the truest test of a sire.
- Hands (hh)
- How horses are measured at the withers. One hand is 4 inches, so 16.1 hh is 65 inches.
